[Solved] OO 4.one.0 on Mac Bone X 10.half dozen.8
Issues installing nether the Mac OSX - X11 - Aqua
[Solved] OO iv.1.0 on Mac Bone X 10.6.8
Afterward receiving notification of the availability of Open up Office 4.1.0, in which it was stated that the update was suitable for Mac OS X x.iii onwards, I downloaded the relevant file … noting that information technology stated:
"Download Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0
Click hither to download (hosted by Sourceforge.net) for:
Mac OS X (ten.6 or older) and English (British) | ~159 MByte | Released: 2014-Apr-29".
However when I attempted to run the instal, a message was displayed indicating that this could not proceed as my version of Mac OS X was not suitable - I run Bone X 10.half-dozen.viii.

Exercise does this mean that Snow Leopard is no longer supported? Is iv.0.i the terminate of the line?
It seems rather odd that a Java application should be so dependent on operating arrangement version.
In whatsoever example, if iv.0.i is the cease of the line, it would exist nice if I didn't see messages telling me to upgrade.

Unless you have a rather sometime Mac, you can first upgrade to Mavericks (ten.9); it's free from Apple. Then you tin install AOO releases beyond 4.i.0. If you tin't/don't upgrade Bone Ten, and so you're probably stuck until yous buy new hardware. Bank check Mac resources on the web if you demand aid determining if you tin can upgrade, or if yous need help installing Mavericks.
If this answered your question delight go to your kickoff post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the dark-green checkmark icon at the same time.

Just some sections of OpenOffice employ Java.

From the release notes at
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/dis ... ease+Notes
"Note: Mac users should exist enlightened that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit application and requires Mac OSX 10.7 or higher up."
Information technology seems rather odd that a Coffee awarding should be so dependent on operating system version.
Apache OpenOffice is not a Coffee application.
In whatever example, if 4.0.1 is the end of the line, information technology would be squeamish if I didn't see messages telling me to upgrade.
Both the release notes (see above) and the system requirements,

, country that Mac Bone X x.7 (Lion) or higher is required.

Re: OO 4.one.0 on Mac Bone X 10.6.8
Although my hardware tin can run Lion, Lion is a pig (compared to Snow Leopard) and even if it wasn't I *hate* the interface changes. Much of that was fixed in Mountain Lion, but my hardware can't run that.
I've been planning to upgrade for a while now, but honestly, with an SSD and maxed out RAM my MacBook Pro (2,1) is withal more than adequate. I am also one of the few people who seems to like a 17" laptop whatsoever more, and I am non terribly interested in shelling out for a new automobile until I absolutely accept to if it means downgrading to a fifteen" screen.
I've got to say that I'yard actually deplorable that only when Open Role starts to get truly usable I can't run the latest version any more.

So just keep using the version of Speedily OpenOffice that y'all have. It is much more contempo than your computer and operating system. I am happy using an older version on my second figurer, a MacBook running Snow Leopard.

Re: OO 4.1.0 on Mac OS X 10.half-dozen.8
I use Snow Leopard because I *prefer* it, not considering I like running old software. Snow Leopard is light and fast, faster than anything that came before information technology and faster than annihilation that has come since. I really don't like what happened with the iOS-ification of OS/X and I accept yet to find a unmarried feature in newer versions that makes me desire to upgrade.
Open Office, on the other paw, has seen substantial improvements in every release and Information technology has only been rather recently that I've considered it truly usable (although I have been using it since it was chosen Star Office...)
If this is really the stop, *PLEASE* find a way to terminate the bloody annoying pop-ups that keep telling me to upgrade.

It is already there in your preferences. Did you look? The pick has been in that location as long as I recollect.
On the bill of fare bar click on 'OpenOffice'
Click on 'Preferences'
In the window that opens go to OpenOffice/Online Updates
Under "Online Update Options" uncheck "Check for updates automatically"

I wonder about this.
I have Bone 10.half dozen.8 on my MacBook Pro from 2009 and I always thought this is a 64 Fleck car, I still recollect it.
So I don't understand why OO four.one doesn't run on information technology, both 64 Scrap.
Why?

Considering AOO 4.i requires OS 10 ver.10.7 or newer. Information technology won't run on older versions of Os X.

AOO 4.1 requires Bone X ver.10.7 or newer. The operating system requirement is independent from information technology being a 64 bit app. Many current applications for Macs crave Os Ten ver.7 or newer.

No, I didn't empathize your respond because I read in the General Remarks of the AOO four.i Release notes this judgement:
Annotation: Mac users should exist aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-scrap awarding and requires Mac OSX 10.7 or above.
I read this like this: As it is a 64-bit application it requires Mac Bone 10.7. This is the matter I don't empathize. OS x.vi is 64-fleck as well, I don't sympathise the logic in this remark.

The underlying routines in the earlier operating system don't suit the electric current version of OpenOffice. If you lot have noesis of Mac OSes, the OpenOffice software source lawmaking is bachelor and you might patch it to conform your operating system. I'm certain there will be OpenOffice developer help available should you decide to do this.

I read this similar this: As information technology is a 64-bit application it requires Mac OS 10.seven. This is the thing I don't understand. Bone 10.six is 64-bit as well, I don't understand the logic in this remark.
You should piece of work on your reading comprehension. Would this be easier for you to comprehend?
1. Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit application.
2. Apache OpenOffice requires Mac OSX 10.7 or above.
